Why we made this site
We started Postcards From The Smokies to keep our travel notes in one place and share the places that interest us. We enjoy a day outdoors, and an old church or castle is a good reason for us to stop and look around. Learning about a place is part of the pleasure of going there.
The Great Smoky Mountains were our starting point, which is how the site got its name. We began with the park’s trails and mountain roads, along with the historic buildings in places such as Cades Cove. That part of the journal is still here in our Smokies section.
Making room for Poland
Over time, we started travelling to other places and wanted the site to follow those trips. Poland is our latest fascination. We’ve opened a Poland section to document it, with city walks in Wrocław and Kraków, mountain routes in the Karkonosze, and visits to historic places.
We want these notes to help with your own travels, too. Alongside the stories and photo essays, we include details such as walking distances and how to visit a building. For information that changes, including opening times and trail access, we link to the relevant official pages.
Each photograph has its creator and source listed beneath it. The image credits collect those details, and our editorial policy explains how we check information and handle corrections.
