A reason to pause here

Our night photographs keep the attention on the lit façades. We like the thought of a short evening detour here after the Main Market Square, with time to see how the smaller space closes around us.

A market behind the main square

The Small Market Square supported the Main Market Square’s trade from medieval times. Meat and fish were sold here, followed by other goods. A tram route crossed the square early in the twentieth century after its older market use declined.

Szoberowska House at number 6 has a late Gothic façade. Merkuriusz Polski, an early Polish newspaper, was printed there in 1661. That gives a slow walk along the frontages a specific house to look for.

Let the lit façades set the pace

Our gallery follows the square at night. We would come for a short detour after the Main Market Square, looking at one frontage at a time as the smaller space closes around us. Stop beside the pedestrian route for photographs, especially when events or café tables occupy part of the paving.

Plan the visit

The square is a public space close to Saint Barbara’s Church. Check current city listings for events that may change the layout. Wear shoes with grip on wet paving, and plan your evening return using current transport information. Church and exhibition hours should be checked separately from this outdoor walk.
