The Carmelite church on Piasek

The Visitation church belongs to the Carmelite complex at Karmelicka 19 in the former Piasek district. Kraków’s heritage register dates the early church to 1395–1397 and records several seventeenth-century rebuilding phases.

The building seen today includes changes from later centuries as well as the older fabric. Its name refers to the Visitation of the Virgin Mary; it should not be confused with the Visitation sisters’ separate church on Krowoderska Street.

Look along the side as well as the front

Our photographs pause at the street façade and the small figure in a niche, then turn to a side view of the brick structure. We would follow the same sequence on foot. That keeps the visit grounded in details visible from the pavement even when the church interior is unavailable.

Approach via Karmelicka Street and use marked crossings near tram traffic. Check the church’s current door notices and worship schedule before entering. Monastic spaces have separate access. Ask about entrances and thresholds if you need a route with few changes in level.
