A reason to pause here
The pointed stone portal invites us in, and the long nave makes us look upwards once inside. We would save time for the side chapels and for the monastery’s separate spaces.
Dominican patronage, chapels and fire
The Holy Trinity church was entrusted to the Dominicans when they arrived in 1222. A new Gothic building followed destruction in the thirteenth century. Benefactors and guilds later added chapels along the nave.
The city fire of 1850 badly damaged the church. Reconstruction added a porch around the older Gothic entrance. The Renaissance Chapel of Saint Hyacinth is upstairs, while the adjoining monastery has a separate cloister and museum route.
Look at the portal before the long nave
The pointed doorway is the detail that draws us inside in the gallery. We would look at its carving first, then step into the nave and allow time for one or two chapels. Different floors and adjoining doors should not become an invitation to wander into private spaces.
Plan the visit
Fit an interior visit around the basilica’s current worship schedule. Check access to the upstairs chapel and monastery museum separately, particularly if stairs are difficult. Follow photography notices and keep prayer spaces quiet. The outdoor approach fits into a walk along Stolarska and All Saints Square.
