MOCAK: contemporary art in Kraków’s former factory grounds

A reason to pause here

The roofline makes us notice the old industrial setting before we choose an exhibition. We like pairing the courtyard architecture with one show we have time to look at properly.

From production halls to an art museum

MOCAK opened on 19 May 2011 on the grounds of the former Schindler factory in Zabłocie. Claudio Nardi Architects designed the museum, combining a new building with the industrial setting.

The museum presents contemporary Polish and international art, with collection displays and temporary exhibitions. The neighbouring Schindler’s Factory branch of the Museum of Kraków focuses on the city under German occupation; it is a separate institution with separate admission.

Choose one exhibition to spend time with

The sawtooth roof and glazed frontage in our photographs make the architecture a useful first stop. We would check the exhibition programme before going inside, then leave enough time to look closely at a show rather than rush through every room. The courtyard can help place the newer building within the old factory grounds.

Plan the visit

Use MOCAK’s current website for exhibitions, opening times, tickets and accessibility. If you want to visit Schindler’s Factory as well, book it separately and leave time between entries. Arrive via the current public-transport route to Zabłocie and check the walk from your stop. Follow the photography rules of each exhibition.
