A reason to pause here
Żagań’s palace park draws us towards the water as much as the palace. We like following the paths between broad avenues and the river, stopping at the historical photograph boards to compare the grounds across time.
The palace estate and Dorota’s park
The palace estate passed through the Wallenstein and Lobkowicz families before Peter Biron bought it in 1786. His daughter Dorota later took responsibility for the residence. Major park work in 1845–1855 involved gardener Friedrich Teichert, with paths and planting arranged around the palace and river setting.
The surviving grounds are part of Żagań’s present visitor landscape. The historical photograph boards provide a useful way to compare earlier layouts with what you see along the paths today.
Let the river change the walk
We would move from the broad avenues towards the water, then stop at the historical boards before returning. The gallery gives the river as much attention as the building. A palace tour can add another layer without being necessary for a satisfying outdoor walk.
Plan the visit
Use Żagań’s current tourism and palace information for entrances, events and any temporary restrictions. Stay on paths by the river and keep children away from steep banks. Interior palace tickets and public park access are separate arrangements.
