Puget Palace: an upper-storey view across Starowiślna

A reason to pause here

The upper storeys of Puget Palace catch our attention above the tram wires. Our photographs stay across the street, giving us a reason to pause on the pavement and find out about the house before assuming there is an interior to visit.

A nineteenth-century residence with later uses

Puget Palace on Starowiślna was built in the 1870s in a French Renaissance style. Kraków’s municipal heritage inventory identifies Józef Kwiatkowski as its architect. The complex includes the main palace and separate adjoining buildings.

Architect Jerzy Donimirski describes inheriting part of the family property and pursuing its restoration as the subject of his 1991 architecture diploma. The buildings have later commercial uses; this is an exterior stopping point, with any interior visit requiring an arrangement with the occupiers.

Look above the tram wires

We would find a safe place across the street and look at the upper floors before approaching the entrance. Our photographs stay outside and give the façade its space. The building is a useful pause while moving between the Old Town and Kazimierz.

Plan the visit

View the exterior from public pavements and cross at designated points. Ask the property manager before expecting access to courtyards or interiors. Office use does not establish unrestricted sightseeing access.
