At Saint Mark’s, our photographs linger over the crucifixion group outside and the smaller pictures inside. It is the sort of church we would approach slowly from the side street, giving the wall details as much attention as the doorway.
A church of the Canons of Penance
The church traces its foundation to the thirteenth century and the Canons Regular of Penance, known in Kraków as the Marki. Its fabric and furnishings changed through later building phases and rebuilding. The community’s history page describes those changes rather than presenting the present interior as entirely medieval.
Approach from the side street
Our photographs linger over the crucifixion group outside before moving to smaller interior pictures. We would give the wall sculpture time, then look for entrance notices. The corner location makes this an easy addition to a Świętego Marka or Sławkowska walk.
Plan the visit
Use the church’s current service information for an interior visit. Avoid interrupting prayer, and follow photography notices. The outside wall can be appreciated when the church is closed; do not force an interior stop into every itinerary.
