A 1902 tower with a working lookout role

The tower was built in 1902 by Zielona Góra’s winegrowers and merchants to commemorate Otto von Bismarck. It stands on Wilkanowska Hill, also called Kosowa Hill, above the wooded ground southwest of Zielona Góra.

The forest district uses the tower as a fire lookout. Its present working role is a reason to plan the woodland approach as the visit and confirm any public access before expecting to climb.

Our gallery follows the tall tower from the trees into its clearing. We would enjoy that approach, then look at the brickwork from the permitted ground around it. The walk also gives time to notice the forest paths and route signs without needing an interior visit.

Plan the visit

Choose an established walking route using the forest district’s information and current trail signs. Check forest-entry restrictions during fire danger or forestry work. Wear shoes for uneven ground and carry water. Treat the lookout as a working structure; do not enter or climb without confirmed permission.
