A reason to pause here
We like a crossing that makes us stop midway. The curve of the bridge and the views in both directions give the walk between Kazimierz and Podgórze a place to pause.
A 2010 crossing on an older bridge site
The footbridge opened in 2010 at the site of the former Podgórski bridge. It connects Kazimierz and Podgórze and is named after Father Laetus Bernatek, who founded the Brothers Hospitallers’ hospital in Kraków.
Jerzy Kędziora’s balancing sculptures hang above the crossing. They are a separate artistic addition to the bridge and can be viewed alongside the river panorama without an exhibition ticket.
Stop midway without blocking the crossing
We would look along the river in both directions, then up towards the suspended figures. Our photographs also follow the bridge’s curve. Continue through Mostowa or Brodzińskiego afterwards; either end gives the crossing a useful place within a neighbourhood walk.
Plan the visit
The bridge is shared by pedestrians and cyclists, with signed routes to follow. Pause where there is room and leave the travel lanes clear. Check current city notices for maintenance or temporary closures. The exposed river crossing can feel different from sheltered streets in wind or rain.
