Galeria Krakowska: a practical stop beside the station

A stop on the way into town

Galeria Krakowska comes into our collection as part of arriving near the station. We would use it for a practical stop when needed, then leave time to walk across the square towards the older city streets.

A new neighbour for the old station

Construction of Galeria Krakowska began in December 2004, and the shopping centre opened on 28 September 2006. The project changed the surroundings of the older railway station and the pedestrian square beside it. Today, shops and transport entrances sit close together in this part of Kraków.

Use the frontage as a landmark

Our three photographs stay outside, following the glazed frontage to its main doors. We would use that clear entrance as a meeting point only after agreeing which side of the centre everyone means.

For a visitor, this can be a useful break for supplies or a meal between trains. We prefer leaving time afterwards to cross Jan Nowak-Jeziorański Square and reach the Planty, so the arrival includes a first view of the older city.

Plan the visit

Consult the shopping centre’s current directory and opening information for individual businesses. Rail platforms, station passages and shops do not necessarily share the same hours. Use station signs for a departure, and allow time to reach your platform.

• Agree on a specific entrance when meeting someone beside the station.
• Check Sunday and holiday trading arrangements before planning a shopping stop.
