A reason to pause here
The courtyard mural is the first thing our camera follows at the Galicia Jewish Museum. We would use that outdoor pause to make room for the exhibitions inside, where the visit needs more time than a photograph of the entrance.
A museum begun with photographs
Chris Schwarz founded the museum in April 2004. Its Traces of Memory exhibition grew from his photographs and Jonathan Webber’s research into Jewish heritage in Polish Galicia. The museum combines surviving traces of Jewish life with the history of destruction and later remembrance.
Give the exhibitions more time than the entrance
Our camera begins with the courtyard mural, but we would make that the opening of a longer visit. Read the exhibition captions carefully and let individual photographed places hold your attention. Temporary shows and events may add another part to the permanent presentation.
Plan the visit
Consult the museum’s current programme and visitor information for admission, opening and event bookings. Check exhibition language and accessibility directly if needed. Our exterior and courtyard photographs do not show the full museum route.
