A reason to pause here
Świętego Marka gives us a reason to look along the sides of buildings instead of only their entrances. The long pale wall, low arches and trees in these photographs suit a short detour through the Old Town.
The church and its community
Saint Mark’s Church gives this part of the Old Town a religious history reaching back to the thirteenth century. It was associated with the Canons Regular of Penance, known locally as the Marki. Later alterations changed the church and neighbouring buildings rather than leaving the quarter frozen at its foundation date.
Look along the side walls
We would follow the long pale wall and look for low arches before turning towards the church corner. The trees and narrower views make this a useful change from the Main Market Square. Our gallery invites attention to the street’s edges rather than a checklist of interiors.
Plan the visit
Keep to public streets and indicated visitor routes. Church access depends on current services and notices. Do not enter institutional courtyards or passages simply because their gates appear open.
