We like the way this named square folds into the Planty paths: a bench, new leaves and the city buildings still close by.

Kraków discussed naming this Planty space after Ewa Demarczyk in March 2022. The city’s records place it between Poselska, Straszewskiego and Podzamcze. Demarczyk was a singer associated with Piwnica pod Baranami, the cabaret also connected with nearby patron Piotr Skrzynecki.

The square lies within the nineteenth-century park laid out around the Old Town’s former fortifications. Its dedication is newer than the paths and garden setting. We would use the name as a reason to listen to Demarczyk’s songs before or after the walk.

Keep the stop small

A bench, new leaves and the nearby buildings give our photographs their scale. We would pause here on the way towards Wawel, then continue once the next path looks inviting. There is no need to turn the small square into a long checklist.

Look for the dedication and consider the nearby Piotr Skrzynecki square if you enjoy connecting the names along the Planty. The green ring makes those stops easy to fit around a city day.
